Women don’t usually suffer from pattern baldness the way men do. Usually when you see women who are balding, and at a relatively young age, you immediately think of a medical problem. It’s even not uncommon for women to grow old and die while still having their hair, even if all of it is white.

Since it’s not common for women to go bald like men do, there’s usually a different kind of stigma attached to it. Most women see their hair as their crowning glory. This is why even a little hair loss can be psychologically stressful for women. Women are generally more attentive to their hair than most men are which is why the market for hair products is wider for women. When confronted with baldness, women tend to deal with it more aggressively than men do. They tend to actively look for products to alleviate the hair loss. They talk to more professionals about it. They consult hair stylists so they can use a hair style that will hide the hair loss. They are also more likely to wear wigs to hide their baldness.

Since women are less likely to go bald than men, they also tend to be harder on themselves when it happens to them.

There are a number of reasons why women can suffer from hair loss. Although not common, women can suffer from the same hereditary traits that cause pattern baldness for men. Pattern baldness is the common type of baldness that men experience. The medical term for this is Androgenetic Alopecia. This is the thinning of hair focused on the central scalp. Hypothyroidism can also cause hair loss. At times, pregnancy also causes mild temporary hair loss which is not supposed to be very pronounced. There is also a condition known as the Loose Anagen Syndrome where a person’s hair begins shedding before its normal growth cycle is finished. All people lose some hair as part of a cycle. Usually, hair grows out for about 2-3 months and then falls off to make way for new strands of hair. Women suffering from Loose Anagen Syndrome have noticeable hair loss because their hair fall out earlier than normal, not allowing the new strands of hair to grow properly. Women who use hair products to color, style, and perm their hair may also suffer from excessive hair loss.

Most hair products have strong chemicals in them, and it’s best to exercise caution when using them. Excessive use of those products without letting your scalp rest may cause irritation to the scalp. The roots may become inflamed and some small lesions may appear. When these lesions heal, they may produce scarring on the scalp. These scarring will be permanent bald spots on the head.

Hair loss in women should not be ignored. If possible, consider natural remedies to address the hair loss problem. Certain types of food can inhibit baldness. Natural supplements such as Provillus can also help in preventing baldness and encouraging hair growth the natural way.
