Some Common Contributing Factors to Women’s Hair Loss
Losing hair can be very stressful for women. There is some sort of stigma attached to female baldness. Most of it comes from the social concept of what is considered to be feminine and attractive. Amphetamine-based diet pills and some anti-depression drugs can also cause balding. There are a lot of other drugs that have hair loss as a side effect. Take note that most drugs may work differently for every individual. The body responds in different ways to different treatments. If “hair loss” is listed as one of the possible side effects, it doesn’t mean that you’ll definitely lose hair if you take those medications. It just means that there is a probability for it.
If you are concerned with the rate of hair loss you are experiencing after taking a specific drug, consult your physician immediately. You may be able to try other formulations of the same medication to prevent further hair loss.
Another contributing factor is stress. This is one of the things that you can probably find easier to control. Of course it’s not realistic to control everything around you and eliminate all possible stressors. However, you can always choose to control how you manage stress or respond to it. If your stress level is abnormally high and you are having a difficult time controlling how you respond to stress, maybe some sessions with a behavioral therapist can help you. Identifying what is causing you to react strongly to some stressful situations can help you manage it. Taking up a relaxing hobby can also help. You may also want to try learning a sport to help you release some of the pent up energy that you have.
Another common cause of permanent hair loss is a psychological condition called Trichotillomania. This is characterized by a compulsive need to pluck out hair strands. It normally leads to scarring on the scalp, and eventually permanent baldness on the spots where hair is usually pulled out.
