Eating Right to Prevent Male Hair Loss
Hair loss is a natural process for all men. As such, the things that you do to prevent it will merely slow it down instead of permanently keep it off. Well, except probably if you go through hair surgery. Many balding, middle-aged men find themselves the butt of many “bald guy jokes” at work or even at home and in other social circles they may belong to. Although you may have a healthy sense of humor about it, the fact is that most people who are balding probably prefer that they’re not. If being middle-aged and balding is a source of stress for some people, imagine being in your early 20’s and already with a receding hairline.
Going bald at a young age may be symptomatic of a hormonal imbalance. Usually an overabundance of a certain type of androgen called Dihydrotestosterone causes balding in men of all ages. Aside from genetics and medical conditions, eating poorly can greatly contribute to excessive hair loss. The usual American diet is high-fat, high-sodium, and contains lots of animal products. This eventually leads to high blood acidity and vitamin deficiency. These are major factors in hair loss.
Hair loss can be staved off by eating the proper diet, or undergoing treatment. For people who want to do things the natural way, picking the right kind of food can help slow down hair loss and even promote hair growth again.
If you want to eat right to be able to slow down the hair loss process, it’s a good idea to eat a lot of iron-rich food. Anemia often comes with major hair loss. To avoid this, eat foods like liver, green leafy vegetables, eggs, whole grain cereals, raisins, and the likes. You may also want to take iron supplements. Eating a protein-rich diet may also encourage hair growth. This is because your hair is made up mostly of protein. It is recommended that you eat good protein sources that are also rich in Vitamin B, which is an important nutrient used by your hair. Some examples are soy proteins, eggs, cheese, milk, some types of beans, and yogurt.
Some studies also indicate that Silica slows down the hair loss process and encourages hair growth. This is why a lot of shampoos that are formulated to prevent hair loss have organic silica in them. Silica can be found in the skins of potatoes, cucumbers, bean sprouts, and both red and green peppers.
To help all these nutrients do their job, you can also take plenty of Vitamin C or get it from natural sources. Vitamin C will help your body absorb vitamins and minerals more effectively. It also has other very good health benefits.
There are also more and more hair growth products available in the market. Some are natural, like Provillus, some are not. You can read many different testimonials about each of them online. The key is to find the right information about these hair loss treatments, and find those that come from reliable sources.
